| Kodaikanal
Lake |
|
But for the Kodai Lake, kodaikanal would be nothing but a swamp
infested hill. Kodaikanal Lake is the pride of this little town,
and the foremost reason for Kodaikanal Lake to be considered as
the princess of hill station.
Man made, 24 hectare in expanse and the 5 odd kms road around the
lake is a pleasure for morning walks. During the day abundant rental
cycle facilities and horse back riding is available. There are various
boat clubs around the lake and the notable one among them was the
kodaikanal boat club, established in 1890.

Coakers Walk
|
|
One of the most interesting places with a magnificent view, coakers
walk was constructed in the year 1872, by an English engineer Lt.
Coaker. He cut a path along the ridge of a steep slope on the south
eastern side of Kodai, which commends a breathtaking view of the
plains below. The one kilometer walk undoubtedly would be one of
the best walks in the paradise hill station.

Dolphin's Nose
|
|
Dolphin's nose is famous among the honeymooners and families. It
is a light trek through Vatakanal village. On a clear day the view
is spectacular. And there is a protruding rock at the edge of the
cliff somehow resembling a dolphins nose and hence the name dolphins
nose. This place is not recommended for elderly people and for those
who can't take strenuous walks.

Pillar Rock and
Devils Kitchen
|
|
Pillar rock is one of the busiest tourist spots in kodaikanal. Thought
crowded during season, the three granite boulders each vertically
measuring a height of 400 feet stand shoulder to shoulder, resembling
set of pillars. It is spectacular to see the mist rise above from
the valley below and slowly engulf the pillars and then the rocks
reappear when the mist gently disappears.
The chamber between the two pillars is called Devil's kitchen. Many
seekers of adventure had perished in the dark deep valleys and crevices
between the rocks.
Though eerie, devils kitchen has a charm of its own. We recommend
caution or better still an experienced guide to accompany you.

Pine Shola

|
A little further from pillar rock, and devils kitchen is the famed
Pine shola. An array of pine trees neatly arranged in rows is a
splendid place for picnic. A humble request though. Please don't
litter the place, for that matter please don't litter anywhere in
kodaikanal. Bring back your rubbish to us and we will be happy to
dispose them off.
